The Smitty’s were not just a team; they were a family. And Reedy was both its architect and its heart.

What you’ll find inside

A rich mix of history, photos, and stories that capture the team, the town, and the man who led them.

Who was Reedy?

If a vote were taken, there would be no doubt that Reedy Fossum would be the patriarch of organized baseball in the City of Aberdeen. This book not only highlights his life - in his own words and those of his family and the countless young men who were mentored by him - but also chronicles the years he coached the Aberdeen Smitty's over five decades. He was at the helm, acting as the CEO, COO, CFO, general manager, field manager, and every other role you can imagine over five decades, including 1946-48, 1959-73, and his final year as Smitty's coach in 1980. He, indeed, created and left a legacy that benefited countless people.
